Introduction to Islam

SAFAR: THE MONTH OF DISTINCTION

Safar is the second month in the Islamic lunar calendar. It is a month that is not known to have any particular events but there are some noted events for example the prophet(saw) evading the Quraysh who wanted to harm him as he left for Madina. This is where he told his cousin Ali to sleep in his bed so that when the Quraysh came to attack they found it was Ali and the prophet was long gone.

During the time of Jahiliyah, it was a month where there were alot of superstitions associated with people leaving their homes during winter to go look for food and other provisions and they had issues with leaving the homes empty. Hence calling the month of Safar the month of travel.
