WARNING ALL OF CREATION ABOUT THE FIRE AND THEIR FEAR OF IT
Warning all of Creation about the Fire and their Fear of it
Hell was created for the evil-doers among the jinn and mankind. Hell will eventually be filled with these two types. Allah, the Most High said:
“And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are even more astray. It is they who are the heedless.” (Al-A’raf (7 ): 179)
Allah, the Most High, says,
“But the word of your Lord is to be fulfilled that, ‘I will surely fill Hell with jinn and men all together.’” (Hud (11): 119)
Allah, Most High, says,
“But the word from Me will come into effect [that] ‘I will surely fill Hell with jinn and people all together. ‘“ (Al-Sajdah (32): 13)
Allah, Most High, says,
“And [mention,O Muhammad], the Day when He will gather them together [and say],‘O company of jinn, you have [misled] many of mankind.’And their allies among mankind will say, ‘Our Lord, some of us made use of others, and we have [now] reached our term which You appointed for us.’ He will say,‘The Fire is your residence, wherein you will abide eternally, except for what Allah wills. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing. ‘“(Al-An’am (6): 128)
Allah, Most High, says,
“And among us are Muslims [in submission to Allah], and among us are the unjust. And whoever has become Muslim—those have sought out the right course (qasitun). But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood. ‘“ (Al-Jinn (72): 14-15)
Allah, Most High, says,
“We will attend to you, O prominent beings. So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?” (Al-Rahman (55): 31-32)
Allah, Most High, says,
“A flash of fire will be let loose upon you and smoke, and you will not be able to defend yourselves! So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? And when the sky is split open and becomes rose-colored like [burning] oil— So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?—Thenon that Day none will be asked about hissinamongmenor jinn. So Which Of the favors of your Lord would you deny? The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.” (al-Rahman (55): 35-41)
The Prophet (pbuh) read these verses to the Jinn informing them of their creation (khalq), death (mawt), resurrection (baith) and recompense (jaza) for good or evil deeds. The rest of the created beings, the best among them being the Angels (malaika), have been warned of Hellfire if they commit sin (masiya). (Tirmidhi, #3287)
There are amongst them those that fear the Fire (khaifun). Allah said:
“And they say, ‘The Most Merciful has taken a son.’ Exalted is He! Rather, they are [but] honored servants. They cannot precede Him in word, and they act by His command. He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they cannot intercede except on behalf of one whom He approves. And they, from fear of Him, are apprehensive. And whoever of them should say,‘ Indeed,I am a god besides Him’—that one We would recompense with Hell. Thus do We recompense the wrongdoers. “ (Al-Anbiya (21): 26-29)
It has been narrated by the Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) and their followers that when Harut and Marut (The two Angels sent to Babylon ) committed sin, they were told to choose either the punishment of this world or the punishment of the Hereafter. They chose the former as the punishment therein will elapse.
Imam Ahmad reported a hadith narrated on the authority of Anas (radijAllahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (pbuh) asked Jibrll ( alayhi as-salam) as to why he has never seen the Angel Mika’il laugh.
Jibril answered that Mikael stopped laughing the day Hell was created. (Ahmad in his Musnad, 2/134)
Imam Ahmad in his Kitab al-Zuhd we find the hadith narrated on the authority of Abu ‘Imran Al-Jawni who said: “We were informed that Jibril (`alayhi as-salam) came to the Prophet weeping one day. The Prophet(pbuh) asked him about what made him cry.’He replied, ‘And why is it that you are not weeping O Muhammad. My eyes have not been dry since the day Hell was created for the fear that I will sin and Allah will throw me into it.’
Muhammad Ibn Munkadir said ‘When Hell was created, the hearts of Angels left their places to return only after the creation of mankind. Even the cattle, creatures of the wild and birds fear Hellfire.’
It was reported by Ibn Abi Dunya that on the day Prophet Dawud ( ‘alayhi as-salam) died, all the creatures of the jungles, deserts, and sea assembled together at the house of Prophet Dawud (‘alayhi assalam). He was brought to the pulpit and [they] immediately began to praise Allah and remind everyone of Heaven and Hell. There was great clamour as the creatures started to cry in unison. As for the non-living things, Allah the most exalted makes mention of their fear in the Qur’an in this verse:
“Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do. “ (Al-Baqarah (2): 74)
Ibn `Abbas (radi Allahu ‘anhuma) said: ‘Verily, a rock falls to the earth only because of its fear of Allah. If a group of people were to try to push it down, they would not be able to do so.’
In an interesting incident, Prophet `Isa (‘alayhi as-salam) traversed a mountain that had two rivers on each of its side. He said: ‘1 do not know from where this water comes and to where it goes.’The river spoke to him saying, ‘As for that which flows on my left, it is the tears from my left eye.’It was asked why this was so;it replied,‘It stemmed from the fear that myLord will make me fuel for Hellfire.’ [Prophet] `Isa (`alayhi as-salam) then said: ‘I supplicate to Allah the Exalted that He endows you to me.’ And this was granted. In an instant, a strong current of water swept him away. [Prophet] `Isa ( ‘alayhi as-salam) exclaimed,‘Subside! In the name of Allah.Indeed I have sought you from my Lord and he offered you to me. Why are you doing this?’ To which the mountain replied, ‘The first weeping was that of fear but know this weeping is of gratitude.’
Tawus said: ‘Indeed the moon does cry from the fear of Allah. However, it does not have any sin and seeks not the power to do deeds nor is it possible for it to do so.’
Section One:
The Worldly Fire Fears Hellfire
Anas (radiyAllahu { anhu) narrated that the Prophet (pbuh) said: “Verily, this fire of yours is one part of seventy parts of Hellfire. Were it not that it was dipped twice in the ocean, you would never have benefited from it.Indeed the worldly fire willsupplicate and seek help from Allah that it not be returned to Hell.” (Ibn Majah, #4318 and Hakim, 4/593)
