15. HER WORSHIP

Beside her generosity she was also ascetic. She (may Allah be pleased with her) was a good model in worship and obedience. That was due to the fact that she was affected by the Prophet (peace be upon him). She followed his way of fasting and performing prayer. N Urwah ibn az-Zubayr reported, “I used to visit A’ishah first and greet her in case I went out early in the morning. One day, I left early in the morning and I found her performing prayer, praising Allah, asking His forgiveness, reciting the Glorious Qur’an, and weeping (out of piety). Then, I went to the market for shopping. Afterwards, I came back and I found her in the same condition performing prayer and weeping while saying, “If I witness the Night of al-Qadr, I will only ask Allah to forgive my previous sins and to grant me health.”

Preferring Others to Herself

Among her virtues also was that she used to prefer others to herself. It was reported that she preferred Wmar to herself to be buried with the Prophet (peace be upon him) and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (in her house). (may Allah be pleased with him) said (to %Abd Allah), “Go to s A’ishah (the Mother of the Believers) and say, ‘TJmar is paying his salutation to you.’, but do not say, ‘The Commander of the Believers,’ because today I am not the Commander of the Believers. Say, Umar ibn al-Khattab asks the permission to be buried with his two Companions (i.e. the Prophet, and Abu Bakr).’ When Allah conveyed the message, A’ishah replied, ‘I had the idea of having this place for myself, but today I prefer to May Allah have mercy and be pleased with her.
