108. THE TALBIYAH OF ALLAH’S MESSENGER

On the authority of ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar who narrated: Whenever his mount stood upright at the mosque of Dhul-Hulaifah, the Messenger of Allah, (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), would assume his intention. He said: “Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaika la shareeka Laka labbaik. Innalhamda wan-ni‘mata Laka wal-mulk la shareeka Lak (Here I am responding to Your call, O Allah, Here I am. Here I am, You have no partner. All the praises and blessings are for You; all the sovereignty is for You; and You have no partners with You).” They said: ‘Abdullah used to say: “This is the Talbiyah of Allah’s Messenger.” Nafi’ added: ‘Abdullah used to add to this: “(Here I am responding to Your call (three times) and I am obedient to Your orders. All good is in Your Hands. Here I am, to You all requests and deeds are directed).”

On the authority of Zaid Ibn Khalid Al-Juhani who narrated: Allah’s Messenger, (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him), said: “Jibraeel came to me and said: ‘Order your Companions to raise their voice with the Talbiyah for it is the symbol of Hajj’.”
